Lives of Owls
Owls have big heads and big eyes. They are fluffy. And their wings are too long. The wingspan of a part of the owl reaches the size of a human. Owls have claws, beaks and hook nailsbeak. These make them perfect hunters. So they are very good at hunting. Owls are hunting really quietly. Their feather are really fluffy and big. They are protecting them from cold.
They can turn their heads untill 270 angles. With this, they can see their enemies. Female owls are larger than male owls and lay approximately 2 to 10 eggs. The incubation period is 30-40 days.
Like hawks and eagles, owls are wild animals. This means they use their sharp claws to hunt, kill and eat other animals. Owl's eyes, like humans, are forward-looking. Most owl species hunt at night. Because they sleep during the day. There are about 250 species of owls in the world. They live on every continent except Antarctica. Owls belong to a group of birds called Strigiformes. They can live about 5- 10 years. Owls can live between 5-12 years in the wild. Owls' hearing and vision are very sensitive. Their ears can hear even the smallest sound. Some owl species have very large ears, which covers completely the lateral part of the owl's head. In addition, owls have a broad head and their ears are farther apart than other birds. Thus, after the sound wave hits one ear, it comes to the other.
